AN EVENING WITH SHELLEY CAVANNA
Shelley has a passion for intricate, mosaic-inspired quilts. She loves creating designs with layer-upon-layer of elements that weave in and out of one another creating depth and movement. Shelley loves to make quilts that can be viewed not only as a collection of beautiful blocks, but also as large-scale, cohesive pieces of art!
This lecture shares the story of Shelley's design evolution as a self-taught quilter, from drawing awkward templates with her third grade ruler to her current love for mosaic and knit inspired (and increasingly complex) projects. The lecture shows the progression of how she developed her signature mosaic style and how she's helping quilters of all skill levels make their own stunning quilts....simply!
About Shelley Cavanna
Shelley is a quilter, teacher, author, and textile and quilt designer who resides near Sacramento, CA with her husband and two boys. Her love of crafting was passed on and lovingly fostered by her Mom and Granny.
Shelley is a self-taught quilter who was bitten by the quilting bug in 2007 when she bought her first sewing machine. She played around with classic quilt blocks and deciphered how to use pre-cuts to make them.
With degrees in English and History...and quite a lot of experience with technical writing during the seven years she spent on staff at her local university...stepping into writing quilt patterns was quite natural! She opened her first independent design company under the banner of Poplun Designs (the Croatian word for quilt) and in 2013 decided to re-brand and re-open as Cora's Quilts.
So who is Cora, then? In truth, no one! Shelley has loved the name ever since she fell in love with The Last of the Mohicans in High School. It's a lovely nod to her Irish heritage and love of historical novels!
