      About Kestrel Michaud

Kestrel Michaud is a classically-trained, imaginative realism fine artist with a passion for illustrating in fabric. She has won more than 50 local, regional, national, and international awards for her artwork.  All of Kestrel's quilts are in the style of imaginative realism.

Kestrel’s technical style is called fused, raw-edge appliqué.  Each quilt is comprised of hundreds or thousands of individual pieces of fabric.  Kestrel cuts and assembles them like a puzzle made from overlapping pieces. Each piece of fabric is fused in place with a heat-sensitive fabric glue before being quilted at a density of 1/8”-1/16”. Kestrel stitches her designs by free-motion quilting, which means she moves the fabric under the needle of her sewing machine to “draw” lines out of thread.

Today, Kestrel works as a full-time, professional quilt artist, exhibiting and selling her work around the world.

Get ready for a whirlwind of stitches! In this high-energy event, participants race to transform a pre-cut jelly roll into a stunning quilt top for charity. The process is simple but thrilling: sew all the strips end-to-end into one long strip (about 1,600 inches!), fold it in half, and keep sewing and folding until a quilt top emerges.

This Jelly Roll Race is all about speed, spontaneity, and surprise - you will be “racing” against the clock and one another to finish a quilt top.  In order to keep it fair, all participants will be given a pre-cut jelly roll and we will all start at the same time (regardless of time zone) - as the event will be simulcast on Zoom and in-person.  Quilt tops may be donated to charity in order to start off our annual giving campaign at a fast pace.  And, as an incentive, there will be prizes!

Perfect for beginners and seasoned quilters alike, the Jelly Roll Race is a joyful celebration of fabric, friendship, and fast stitching!  No two quilts turn out the same, and the results are always dazzling.

Fill up your bobbins, change out your needles, bring your sewing machine, scissors, and a great attitude.  Ready, set, RACE!

Come and join us for our fifth annual virtual retreat!  Your admission includes events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  You are welcome to come the entire time, or pop-in and out depending on your own schedule.

The retreat fee covers your registration, a pre-retreat quilt pattern and opportunity to participate in QUILT BINGO, supplies for a project, quilt block ideas, prize drawings, games and entry into the GRAND PRIZE give away.

Since we are virtual, you can invite friends from all across the country (and world) to experience a virtual vacation (from the comfort of your own home).  The more the merrier!

      REGISTRATION:

There are two options for registration.  The first is to have your registration packet mailed - the second is for pick-up only at the ACQ guild meeting in February.  Mailed packets will go out in early February - so you will have everything in order when the retreat begins.

      OPTION:

You will also have the option to participate in QUILT BINGO.  This is a pre-retreat activity.  If you choose to participate, a pattern will be emailed to you with instructions and a layout suggestion for turning your BINGO board into a finished quilt.

      PRELIMINARY AGENDA:

Subject to change, but we wanted to give you an idea of what to expect.

It's that time of year again -- brackets are buzzing, fans are cheering, and basketball is everywhere! While the world may be focused on buzzer-beaters and final scores, we're bringing our own version of madness to the sewing room!

Let me tell you a quick story...

A few years ago, my friend Lisa found herself on national TV. Her son's underdog team had miraculously made it to the Final Four, and there they were - holding their own against the #2 ranked team. During a timeout, the camera zoomed in on Lisa. She wasn't jumping up and down like the rest of the crowd. No -- she was sitting quietly, hands folded, head slightly bowed... praying.

And honestly...I get it. Because I've done the same thing..but over a quilt!

      • "Oh please, let these seams match."
      • "Just let this one block work. I don't have time to unpick again."
      • "It's for my parents. It HAS to turn out beautifully!"

So this March Madness Sew Day, we invite you to bring your projects, your prayers, and your sense of humor!  There'll be:

      • Fun games (solo and team-style!)
      • Prizes for lucky winners
      • Plenty of sewing, chatting, and laughing
      • Maybe even a finish or two!

Whether you're stitching like a seasoned MVP or just hoping to stay in the game, come spend the day with friends who totally understand the pressure of a perfect quarter-inch seam.

Let's make this sew day a slam dunk!

We can't wait to see you there!

      Dancing X's with Patricia Belyea

In this workshop, you will learn how to insert two curved lines into a 12" square of fabric.  Your curves are of your own design and are perfectly flat!  To make the quilt, you sew 6" blocks of one color combination and 6 blocks of another color combination for a checkerboard composition.  Final size is 33"W x 44"H.

Patricia's step-by-step teaching style encourages you to stretch your creative muscles and try new techniques with enthusiasm.  Her generous approach includes everything she knows about quilt design and construction.

      Get Supply List HERE

      No refunds available.

This workshop will be held on the Speaker's Platform.

Patricia will be speaking at the April  Guild Meeting
