PICTORIAL HAND APPLIQUE with David Taylor

This workshop demonstrates David's layered, hand-applique techniques with simple applique shapes using freezer paper templates and liquid starch.  You will be learning the layered freezer paper applique process that he uses on his award winning animal wall quilts.  The class will cover how he builds his pictorial wall quilts and how to get beautiful details by letting the fabric choices do all the hard work.  There will be lots of demonstrations including the pre-turned-edge technique, eliminating the dreaded shadowing, and an invisible hand-stitch.  This is an IN-PERSON workshop.

Your class fee INCLUDES the "Student Kit Fee" which is noted on the Supply List below.  You will NOT need to pay this as an additional separate charge.  The kit will include all pre-washed fabrics needed for the block, fat-quarter background, pattern, full-color instructions, freezer paper templates, and tracing paper for overlay.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

David Taylor currently lives in Fort Collins, Colorado.  His obsession with fabric began at an early age, salvaging tiny scraps from his mother's sewing area trash bin.  He started creating on her sewing machine by age 10.  After collage, he began a 30+ year career in graphic design.  His first quilt design was in 1999, collaborating on a fundraiser project for Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, CO, with friend Madeleine Vail.  Madeleine encouraged him to keep after it.  In 2009, he left his job at an advertising agency, started teaching applique and quilting, and never looked back.  His teaching adventures have taken around the globe, and his quilted artworks hang in numerous private collections.
